Children’s Rights in Times of Transition
Children all over the world experience constant situations of transition, some of them life-threatening, whereas others offer opportunities for positive change. In this chapter we will reflect on and discuss some developments, challenges, and opportunities related to the notion of childhood and children’s rights. As it is often in times of transitions that established patterns are challenged, we ask: “How can times of transition be seen as providing both opportunities and challenges for children and the upholding of their human rights?”
In this chapter, the authors look at discussions on concepts such as “children” and “childhood” and their relation to human rights in the context of the Convention on the Rights of the Child and the state as an actor.
