Inger Skjelsbæk, leader of the EuroWARCHILD project, was invited to join a book talk by author Alen Muhic who recently published his autobiographical book “Ja sam Alen” (I am Alen). For the book talk in Mostar Cultural Center, Inger was invited to join a conversation about war and its aftermath based on her own work in Bosnia and her recently published book “Sarajevos Roser” (Sarajevo Roses).

The EuroWARCHILD team organised its first academic and policy workshop, held on April 10-11, 2025, in Oslo, which brought together an esteemed group of scholars, researchers, and policy experts to engage in vital discussions about the experiences and needs of children born of war in Europe.

On 5 December 2024, the Bosnian “Forgotten Children of War Association” received the University of Oslo Human Rights Award, kicking off the Oslo Peace Days. The prize winners Ajna Jusic, Alen Muhic and Lejla Damon shared powerful stories about their upbringing as war children in Bosnia.

Inger Skjelsbæk’s new book Sarajevos Roser examines life after a conflict characterized by extreme war crimes and genocide, including sexual violence. It presents her research on conflict-related sexual violence through the people she met, the texts she studied, and the encounters she had in Bosnia after since 1995, the year the Bosnian war ended with the Dayton Peace Agreement.

On 19 June 2024, EuroWARCHILD’s Inger Skjelsbæk and Lina Stotz were invited to present at the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe(OSCE) in Vienna at a Breakfast Seminar on children born of war.

The Ingrid Aune Memorial Foundation commemorates the legacy of politician Ingrid Aune, who passed away in 2019 at the age of 33. Annually, the foundation presents an award to individuals who have made notable journalistic or academic contributions on peace initiatives, gender equality, and the rights of women in conflict zones. This year, the prize has been awarded to Inger Skjelsbæk for her research on sexual violence related to conflict.

​On June 1st, the Centre for Gender Research (STK) and the Peace Research Institute Oslo (PRIO) hosted the launch of the EuroWARCHILD project. The launch brought together scholars and practitioners, as well as European war-children, to discuss what it means to be a child born of war.

The Centre for Gender Research (STK) is pleased to announce that the EuroWARCHILD project was kicked off on January 20 2022, when the project participants were finally able to meet in person in Oslo. The project is funded through a Consolidator Grant of the European Research Council (ERC) from 2021-2026.

Professor Inger Skjelsbæk, based at the University of Oslo’s Center for Gender Research (STK), has been awarded a Consolidator Grant by the European Research Council (ERC) for a project that seeks to understand the needs and rights of children born of war.
